The best social distancing jokes and memes from the coronavirus pandemic
The coronavirus is serious. Nearly 100 people in the United States, and almost 8,000 worldwide, have died from the virus as of Tuesday afternoon, according to data from Johns Hopkins.
But the reality is that with millions of people stuck inside, they’re gonna go on the internet and make some memes and jokes. They do that even on days they’re not quarantined.
Plenty of the jokes even tried to convince people to do the right thing, which is to stay indoors and away from others as much as possible, even if it means coming off like Tony Soprano.
Vanessa Carlton, who once famously sang, “Making my way downtown...” delivered a clear message, too.
Of course, there aren’t a lot of things to do while quarantined, which led to more jokes.
Famous directors with conveniently pun-able names were feeling the loneliness, too.
But subway fare evaders, heroes of the proletariat and bane of the MTA, proved unsurprisingly resourceful.
Sports may have been canceled, but that doesn’t mean infamously drop-prone Philadelphia Eagles receiver Nelson Agholor is off the hook.
Even after Gobert’s positive test shut down the NBA, and soon all other major leagues both inside and outside the U.S., people still found ways to get their sports fix.
With no physical basketball to talk about, NBA commercials made great coronavirus jokes, even doubling as commentary on the lack of COVID-19 tests available throughout the nation.
Plenty of students had mixed feelings about universities closing up shop and moving online, especially because teachers and technology don’t always mix well.
Finally, everyone knew those quarantine snacks they bought wouldn’t last very long, even they didn’t look quite as handsome as Brad Pitt while eating them.
