Dating banned: Online site for Aussies who want to marry quickly
Gomarry.com founder Azad Chaiwala told news.com.au it was “a first of its kind marriage only relationship site (for) single people looking for family and marriage” where “no dating” was allowed.
“The world is tired, especially women ... of short term meaningless relationships, Tinder, swiping etc.,” Mr Chaiwala said.
The controversial web entrepreneur said there was a “massive demand for a no nonsense website that cuts past the failure that is dating” so launched Gomarry.com last month.
Those who register with the site have to be prepared to marry someone they match with.
An “alternative to dating” is provided to members and includes a 260 question pre-meeting survey followed by a “marriage meeting” where participants answer a further 101 questions to ensure they’re a suitable match. Questions in the initial survey include: ‘Do you want to work after you are married?’ and ‘Are you preparing for retirement financially?’
“(It) gets right to the point when it comes to long-term, serious relationships,” Mr Chaiwala said. “I believe in marriage and family life.”
According to the British founder, 60 per cent of the site’s 5000 members worldwide are women.
About six men and six women currently have their locations publicly listed on the site as Australia.
Mr Chaiwala, who is also the “founder of world’s first ever polygamy marriage sites www.SecondWife.com & www.Polygamy.com”, has come under fire for his business ventures in the past. Secondwife.com is a Muslim polygamy matchmaking service while polygamy.com caters to individuals of any religion.
While polygamous marriages — where a person has more than one spouse — are illegal in Australia, the UK recognises them if they take place in countries where they are legal.
However, no UK laws stop unregistered religious ceremonies taking place.
In September last year, Mr Chaiwala told news.com.au that membership for his polygamist dating sites had soared to more than 100,000 members, amid reports of a rise in multiple marriages across the UK.
The then 33-year-old said the reality was “women are not sexual beings” but were “nurturing” and “caring”. That was in comparison to men who “can’t even walk down the street without seeing billboards that are triggering every notion inside them”.
“What I’m advocating is that you have your main partner which for men would be their first wife then they take on a second wife or a third wife, and I’m limiting it at four,” he said.
“I’m saying stick with those people for the rest of your life and be true to them and take care of one another and have a family and be happy.”
